STRESS MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

Absenteeism due to stress is obviously bad for the individual concerned, but it also has a knock-on effect in the workplace. Colleagues are left to carry out tasks that are normally done by their team member, adding more stress to their ability to cope, and can lead to a decrease in productivity as staff become demotivated with the overwhelming pressure they feel placed under.

Stress occurs when we feel that situations are out of our control.

Stress Management isn't just about coping when the going gets tough. It's about building a higher resistance to stress so that we can be in control of how we react to situations. It's about looking after ourselves so that we don't fall ill. It's also about being able to function effectively even when the demands are great.

If you wanted your staff to benefit from an individually-built stress management programme, what would you want to see as an outcome for the company?

  • Greater productivity?
  • Motivated employees?
  • Less absenteeism?
  • Decrease in staff turnover?

If you undertook this programme as an individual, what would you want the outcome to be?

  • To feel more in control?
  • To be more energetic?
  • To be more positive?
  • To enjoy work?

  • In times of stress, it's not unusual for us to use the same coping methods every time. These can include:
  • Putting more hours in
  • Smoking or drinking more
  • Eating fast food
  • Spending less time exercising
  • Spending less time socialising
  • Spending less time on our hobbies
  • Spending less time with our families

We tell ourselves that "once the pressure's off we'll get back to normal". Maybe in the short term this does work - but what if the pressure's long term? Using these methods of coping long term can lead to illness and absence from work.

By following a programme tailored to the individual there will be many more positive options to choose from.

       How does it work?
